Fears of the West

Fears of the West is a card game set in a Wild West atmosphere. During tense matches, players carefully plan actions aimed at eliminating all of the opponent’s cards. The game is full of unpredictable twists and mechanics that strongly shift the balance of victory. Every move can throw the opponent’s strategy into doubt, forcing dynamic gameplay.

Each match is preceded by a deck selection - a screen where both players need to choose their decks for the match. it works by having the game generate two random decks per player, from which the player need to choose whichever one they consider better. This removes the problem of the so-called “meta,” meaning the creation of optimal decks and their popularity among players, which in turn limits gameplay variety. A deck consists of 6 cards.

After this, the actual match starts. the goal of the match is to eliminate all cards in the opponent’s deck.

A player’s turn consists of two parts:

• moving 2 of their adjacent cards,

• attacking an opponent’s card OR using their card' ability.
  

Each part may be skipped if the player chooses not to perform it.

Cards may (but don’t have to) have a unique ability that can be used instead of a normal attack. The ability is more versatile than a simple attack - it isn't limited to dealing damage, it can, for example, heal another card.

All cards have fear, an original system for balancing gameplay. The more damage a card receives, the higher its fear becomes. Upon reaching a certain fear threshold, the card transforms into its mutated, stronger form. While in its mutated form, the card’s fear decreases each turn, causing it to return to its normal state after a few turns.

At any moment during their turn, the player may use wild cards, which are drawn at the start of the match. These are 3 single-use cards with powerful, specific effects that can turn the course of the game upside down.
